A Facile and Green Synthesis of Hydrophobic Polydimethylsiloxane Foam for Benzene, Toluene, and Xylene Removal

Due to its excellent properties, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) foam has recently attracted significant academic and industrial attention. In this study, a facile green method was developed for PDMS synthesis. The prepared by using the gas foaming with eco-friendly materials, namely NaHCO3 as blowing agent acetic acid catalyst. By changing ratios of reactants curing temperature, foams varying properties were obtained. water contact angle obtained ranged from 110° 139°. We found that can be compressed maximum strain 95% retain their original size, showing mechanical properties. synthesized tested an absorbent remove benzene, toluene, xylene (BTX) water. It exhibited good selectivity, outstanding reusability, absorption capacity. Its capability large amount organic solvent surface suggests great promise in recovering spilled compounds water, separation performance continuous treatment.
